Trouble in the Terraces of my mind

Some may know that I love to watch wrestling (guess al lwho read this knows now). It's something I enjoy watching. It's like the man's version of the soap opera. This weekend I got a DVD that told the tale of the greatest promotion that has ever been around. It's called "the Rise and Fall of ECW".

Philadelphia based (but later became nationwide) ECW (or Extreme Championship Wrestling), was created at the most perfect time. See, back in the early 90s, there were two wrestling promotions, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE, but it was WWF at the time), and World Championchip Wrestling (WCW). These two groups shyed away from "real" wrestling (yes it's fake, but I mean the fake that looks like a real amateur-style match). Most of the characters in the two companies were basicly larger-than-life cartoon characters. ECW was the first comapny to bring back the "real" style of wrestling in bringing in the most talented technical and amateur wrestlers, but also created the style called "hardcore" (where different weapons, violence was used). It also let the performers be themselves or an extention of their personality, and not hide behind some stupid character.

The company also had the most rabid, un-PC, fans around. They were some of the toughest crowds (I was at a couple of their shows here in Queens NY), but they were also some of the most smartest, intelligent crowds around as well. What I mean is that they know what was good and would cheer/chant to encourage it. If they didn't like what the company was offering, they weren't afraid to voice their displeasure. Now, if you were the "heel" (bad guy) woman in the match, you got it worse. The fans and what they said wasn't meant to be personal, just a reaction to the character (which meant that the character was being done perfectly).

I used to stay up at night to watch this on the MSG network at 1 am Sat nights, this company got me back into following wrestling. This company had the perfect balance of the ultra-violence in their hardcore matches, but also had some of the best technical and mat wresling ever seen here in the US. As much as many don't like to admit, but the ideas ECW came up with (and were stolen and used by the "Big" companies) saved pro wrestling in the US, and also changed culture in general.

If you got $25 laying around and want to watch a well-done documentary on not just a wrestling company, but the American dream (one man creates something long lasting out of nothing), pick up this DVD. It also has a small sampling of their gratest matches (though I could name at least 10 other matches that should be also added to show the real history of the company).

Christmas was fun, just sucked I was sick!! I woke up yesterday with my damn head congested and my throat killing me. The entire day I was miserable, but it was a nice time overall. I just wished I was able to go see my aunt, but with this cold I didn't want to go over there. Today I felt a little better, but i'm still feeling horible and coughing up some interesting things. I hope I can get over this soon.

Well, the good news is that my eye cleared up and I think is cured. So at least there's one thing that can't be pissing me off for this holiday.

Today (well, early tomorrow morning) is the one year aniversary of ym Uncle's passing. I've gone over in the past here what I did for him and his family, so you can see that there. I just was thining of him the entire day and thought I'd share how I felt about the man.

My Uncle was a great man. He would do anything for anyone. He always did the right thing for his family. He was from the old school, and his perspective was from the old school. I learned a lot from him because of this and the stories he would tell. If I had a problem, he always had a way to put in perspective and that would help me. He was a devoted family man. He was married to my Aunt for over 50 years, something you rarely hear about these days. He always did what he could to protect not only her, but all this children and grandchildren. He may not have agreed with some of his family's decisions, but he would always support them and not try to sabotage his family. Even in his last year of life, he always had a positive attitude and loved life.

Well that's all I have to say right now about him, I'm sure there's ton's of things I'm forgetting, but I can't put a lot of it into words here.

Day two of the pink eye, and it seems to be getting better. it's not a puffy, and the itchiness seems to have gone down a bit, so things seem to be going my way. Just down about the whole time of year, I should be happy, but too many negatives in my life far outweight the positives....

I saw a pic of RFK Stadium today where they are renovating it for baseball.....man it makes me so glad to see that it's all torn up in tere and DC United has to live with it!!!!! I hope DC baseball doesn't happen, then United has to play in that dump that looks worse than it did during last season!!!

So the Yankees find a way to trump the Mets' big news.....not to mention Atlanta getting Hudson that also trumps the Mets getting Pedro. I don't know, but it feels like there's all of a sudden a trade deadline in the offseason with everything going on this week. Eh, who the hell knows...all I know is that all the big market teams are getting better, but they somehow won't end up in the playoffs this season, count on it.

Don Imus is right, how uncool is "happy holidays"? I mean, what's so hard with saying "merry Christmas", or whatever holdiay one celebrates? God forbid you would get it wrong with someone...I don't tihnk people would get up in arms if you tell a Jew "Merry Christmas", I'm sure he/she would just correct the person....if they get upset, they have too much free time to worry about BS like that. That's the problem with this country, things go well, and people have t find something stupid to get worried about and force change on the normal. Take videogames, movies, or anything that one has to suspend belief in order to enjoy. Now its like one who makes something they have to be so worried about offending even the most insignifigant group, otherwise they will comnplain to the feds, and then the fun's over for everyone else. My favorite quote that proved how ignorant these "groups" are, the guy in charge of the PTC (Parent Television commission), said of the show "Desperate Housewives"

According to Nielson, 25 million people watch Desperate Housewives. That's 10% of the population in the United States. What that means is that 90% of this country doesn't want it on the air...."

People who seriously think like this scare me, and what's scarier is that THEY HAVE POWER IN THIS COUNTRY!!! The only reason sane people aren't in charge is because they are forced to work 50 hours/week to support themselves and their famlies, they have no time to take control of this country...

As if this holiday season couldn't possible get any worse, I woke up with pink eye today on top of my cold!!! THis really sucks, since it put a small delay on my getting my shopping done!!! Im trying this new stuff OTC, so hopefully it'll work and clear this up...otherwise I have to go to a damn doctor.

Pedro's a Met, and apparently he went through with all the pysical, and passed it. Now the Yankees apparently got Randy Johnson....so again, that fat bastard Steinbrenner wanted all the attention like the spoiled fat brat that he is

That's all I got tonight, since I'm pissed about my eye, my cold, my life......

Pedro's going to his Step-daddy, for $56 Mil.....I would be happy with this, but one small thing, he doesn't want an MRI done on his shoulder, AND THE MORON METS AGREED TO IT!!! This is the shoulder that's attached to a power pitcher, who has past problems with it, and has used it a whole hell of a lot in his career. Let me explain this as well....if the Mets dont' get the MRI, there's no chance in hell they could get this contract insured. Let's see the short history of the Mets "medical decisions"

Mo Vaughn- "Gee, he hasn't played in over a year, so I guess that means he's well rested.."
Vlad Guererro- "uh oh, that back doesn't look like it's gonig to last, we should pass on him..."
Mike Piazza- "his knees are shot, but at least his bat will carry us.."
A-Rod- "there's something here that doesn't look right, we'll pass on him..."
Tom Glavine- "sure he's an old pitcher and looks like he lost something on his pitches...but he always beat us. So lets sighn him so he can dominate others like he did us..."

I"m convinced that the Doctor the Mets use for this is named Dr. Nick Riviera....

On the bright side, I bet the MidgetPedro has tag along with him comes along.

Today was a real bad day. First, I wake up at 5 am, and couldn't get back to sleep...so I spent 2 hours sitting in bed with nothing to do beyond think. I get out of bed about 7, had some coffee and worked out a bit (situps and pushups, nothing major). One thing I did out of the ordinary was visit gravesites with my father. We went to my Grandfther's and Aunt's sites to put some flowers by them. Yeah, it's sort of sad, but it was a good thing to do.
THing is, the entire day, I felt like i was in a daze the entire day. It's hard to describe, but I felt like I was "off" the entire day. Maybe it was because I got up so early, maybe it's just from the stress and stuff I've had around me for awhile. Maybe it's from this cold I"ve had the past couple days, who the hell knows. Hopefully tomorro I'll feel better, i'm going to sleep in tomorrow (though i feel guilty when I do).

Let's see what BS I can put here tonight..

-Let me get this straight...Pete Rose placed a few bets, gets banned for life. But that retarded looking jackass Giambi, Mr. Roids Bonds, and "my uncle's a coked up loser of a pitcher"Sheffield, get nothing more than a "good talking too".....proof that the inmates run the asylum in baseball. Also, the guy in charge of the union looks like a rat (well he is a lawyer, so that shouldn't shock anyone)....

-My dog is officially a Metrosexual!!! We have the vet's office bathe him (since they have a medicated bath for his bad skin), and he loves it there!!! he also got his nails done today...Funny part is that he's nuts when we're around him in the office-barrking, trying to protect my mom, pulling me around the room, but I do control him a bit. When we're out of his site, he's quiet and so good, according to the people at the office. Good to know in case someone takes him!!!!

-The BCS still has one too many letters in it, but for some reason, that's the only way to determine a national champion in college football, instead of something stupid like a playoff. I alway laugh at the fact that the BCS isnt' sanctioned by the NCAA officially....

Ok, today I was walking around in different stores looking at things I may want for Christmas (I still have no clue what I want). As I"m walking around, I noticed all the parents with kids.

This is one of the times of year that's all about the kids. I see how some parents are with their children and am amazed how all-out they go just to make their children happy (and probably make themselves feel good as well). You know what I mean, they are buying out the toy stores, taking their kids to Santa, and just making the kids feel happy this time of year. These parents I think are cool, though the disipline issue isn't right (that's another entry). What amazes me is how the single parents do this to their children, they sacrifice more to make their children's Christmas a happy one. Of course these parent's probably get some assistance from family/friends, but from the single parents I know, they usually like to do it themselves.

Then again, there is the complete opposite type of parents (which I also know some of these people). These are the parents, who shouldn't have kids in the first place, do just enough to make themsleves not look negligent. It's not they work hard to do this, they usually do a half-assed job, and force their familes to pick up the slack (one thing I've seen done is they hold their kids "hostage", where they won't let the family see the kids until certain things are done for them). These are also the parents who will blow their money on themselves, and then expect others to buy all ltheir kids' gifts FOR them. I witnessed one Christmas, these people would give their relatives huge ass lists for each kid with specifics of what the kid wants, and it HAS to be what's on the list. Oh, and hey also expect their family to buy EVERYTHING on these lists. What's really sad is like how the toddler has on his list diapers, formula, etc. (well, first it's amazing the kid can write...).

It really bothers me to not only the fact these parents do this crap, but the faces on the kids that don't know what's really going on. I alwaays fear about their futures. Some may have potential to do big things in life, but with assclowns like their parents, they may never gt to fulfull their potential and find happiness in their lives, since it may not be in the best intersts of their parents. These people should all be rounded up, sterilized, and have their kids taken away. Tough, yes, but the worst stiuation in state custody would be at least 5 times better than to be stuck with irresponsable, selfish, ignorant, leeches on society and family they call mommy and daddy.

this is going to be short: I"ve been looking all over for a job and decided togo to the hospital to look into volunteering, they may have some office jobs I could do. Maybe I can put the stuff I learned if my medical billing class to good use. I'm also looknig into other things, like "mystery shopper." I saw it on one site and I"m researching it right now. Maybe it'll be an interesting profession to get into!!!

THis time of year really brings me down. Not just because of the situation I'm in now, but I always get down thinking about my past and the problems I've had. It's not that it made the holdiays suck, but just I remember how it was just having my problems through the holidays and it gets me a little sad. This year I also an down because right before Christmas last year, my Uncle passed away. This was the Uncle I drove my Aunt and cousin to see in the hospital on the Island 5 days a week for almost 3 months. I remember the Sunday before Christmas getting the call and thinking how sad it was, but also how good it is that now he doesn't have to suffer anymore. I really felt bad for my cousin, who's birthday is on Christmas eve, and he had to deal with all this. I know it won't be too great this year, but I do hope he does find some joy in the holiday.

"what do you want for Christmas?" that's whatI've been hearing the past couple days. Well, I have no damnclue what I want, and I dont' think I deserve anything. Why do you aks? Well, because I don't think I've done anything good to warrent my getting something from ayone this year. Sounds stupid I know, but that's how I feel. Funny part is, I like giving people gifts, material or other...guess 'cause i'm nice guy. Oh well, I have to give my parents an answer soon....I doubt they would be able to get me a hot chick that would cherish and love me!!! I have to ask them how much they want to spend, and make some choices from there...

Eh, same old, same old. Nothing really happening today. I did my usual thing, so it's not really worth my time to go over what I did. I did read a couple things on different news sites today I thought i'd share:

The Chicago fire of MLS had their groundbreaking for their stadium today. Now, Metro's stadium SHOULD be underway by now but what a shock it isn't, want proof? go to Metrofanatic.com and check out all the articles up there with the quotes of Metro front office's head assclown Nick S. The Fire somebow got everything done1-2-3 and now they'll have their own stadium soon. But since both the NJ Gov't and Metro are ran by inept, clueless people...Metro are still stuck in the crackhouse that is the NJSEA ran Meadowlands (I somehow see a connection with the state jerking metro around while they play in a state ran complex...hmmmm)

I'm also sick and tired of Nick S with his ploys to try to drive the hardcore fans (the ESC and others who have stuck by the Titanic of MLS since 1996) out, and try to usher in all the newbie fans and soccermom-led lemmings of the youth soccer. Myp roblem is that I swear he wants to brainwash these kids and new fans into yes men, so they won't complain about how their investment (season tickets IMHO, is an investment into a team) is tanking it on and off the field. What do I mean by off the field...look up Metro Playoff Fever, and see what happens when you put people who have no idea on marketing/soccer in general in charge of a campaign thats supposed to make more people come to games...

On an intersting note, Mets pitcher Kris Benson has a real classy wife. I think she's in this weeks FHM, and she was doing an interview today where she said that she and her husband have tons of tapes of them "intimate", and that if she ever found out he was cheating on her, she go and sleep with all his teamates, coaches and managers. That alone just screams she's a keeper!!!

BTW, you think it's hard to tell she's an ex-stripper....plus she's had 3 kids. see for yourself:

www.annabenson.net

and on that note, I'm done...
